Hi Lynne,

While I don't sell computers myself, I can certainly help set up your friends computer once he's bought it, and I can get him set up and oriented with it and whatever Internet service he gets (cable or DSL). I do not make regular trips to Hilo, but will drive anywhere on the island; travel charges do apply at my regular hourly rate, however.

While I strongly suggest using one of Apple's Mac computers for many reasons, I can help with the setup of either a Windows or a Mac computer. There is no Apple store on the island, but one can be ordered directly from Apple or from one of the stores on Oahu. If he goes the Windows route, I would recommend Falcon Computers, who just opened their third store on the island in Hilo a few months ago.

I do not recommend buying a big brand name Windows PC as they generally (if not always at this point) come pre-loaded with Vista which is a poorly made OS even for Windows. A place like Falcon still loads XP unless you ask otherwise. But again, I still consider Apple's Macs to be the best choice overall.

I hope that helps,

Worth, I am writing on behalf of a lifelong friend who lives on the Hilo side of the Big Island. He has a computer, but its older than Mauna Loa. I am wondering if you do this service: I would like him to have a new computer, a cable or fast internet service, and set him up with his old programs so everything works to his needs. Here in Los Angeles, the folks at Geek Squad do that for you, I just bought entire setup and had it set up NO PROBLEMS in one day. Do you do this service? I realize you live in Kona, but do you ever do a day in Hilo for computer work? I do not know who to contact in the Hilo area. Thank you in advance, Lynne in LA
